Rafael Muñoz Pérez was born in Córdoba in 1988. Olympedia gives 3 March. He swam the 100 m butterfly at Beijing 2008 and held the long-course world record for the 50 m butterfly.

El País, reporting the 5 April 2009 record, places him at Club Natación Vista Alegre in Córdoba.

World record and major championships

Olympedia lists the long-course 50 m butterfly world record: 22.43, on 5 April 2009 in Málaga, standing until 1 July 2018. El País describes that swim at the Spanish championships in Málaga and the previous record of Roland Schoeman (22.96). On 22 June 2009 El País reported that FINA ratified 22.43.

Beijing 2008: 30th in the 100 m butterfly, from Olympedia. The Foundation adds that he swam the heats on 14 August in 52.53.

2009 Rome World Championships: bronze in the 50 m and 100 m butterfly (Olympedia). The Foundation gives 22.88 and 50.41 in those finals.

Long-course Europeans, from Olympedia: bronze in the 50 m and 100 m butterfly at Eindhoven 2008; gold in the 50 m butterfly at Budapest 2010; gold in the 50 m butterfly at Debrecen 2012. Short course: silver in the 100 m and bronze in the 50 m at Rijeka 2008; gold in the 50 m and silver in the 100 m at Chartres 2012.

Olympedia also notes European records in the 100 m butterfly: 50.58 on 4 April 2009 in Málaga and 50.46 on 25 April 2009 in Montpellier, standing until 31 July 2009.
